| At 6:00 p.m., Station 34 and mutual aid companies were dispatched to a report of a building fire at 81 East 3rd Avenue in the Borough of Collegeville. Collegeville Police and Deputy 34 arrived on the scene and observed smoke coming from the building, which prompted a working fire dispatch.
Engine 34 responded with a crew of six, laid a supply line from the nearest hydrant, and positioned on the front "A" side of the building. Firefighters quickly went to work with a hose line. Chief 34 arrived at 6:06 p.m. and took command of the incident. Crews forced entry into the building to locate the source of the fire.
A second hose line from Engine 34 was brought to the rear of the building by firefighters from Lower Providence (53), who entered the basement area and found a fire, which they promptly extinguished. Ladder 77 positioned on the back side of the building, while Tower 53 operated at the front corner. Crews searched the basement and ensured the fire was completely out. After a thorough search to confirm there was no additional fire, the incident was placed under control.
Station 34 units remained on scene until 8:30 p.m.
The fire is under investigation by the State Police Fire Marshal's Office.
