James C. Moyer, 96, husband of the late Sarah C. (Zahnd) Moyer, died Tuesday, December 10, 2024, at Aspen Village, Frederick Living, Zieglerville, PA.
Jim was born on November 28, 1928, in Collegeville, PA, to the late Robert K. and Ella (Hauseman) Moyer. He lived in Collegeville until 2001 when he moved to Limerick, PA.
Jim was a graduate of Collegeville-Trappe High School and served in the US Air Force during the Korean War.
Before retiring, Jim was a sports activity and facilities manager at Ursinus College from 1971 to 1992. He previously owned the Collegeville Pharmacy from 1962 to 1971. He worked for the pharmacy from 1942 to 1962.
Jim was well known for his service to the Collegeville Fire Company. During World War Two, he, at age 14, joined as an auxiliary fireman and became a full member in 1947. He served as Assistant Chief from 1956 to 1959 and Chief from 1960 to 1969. He became a Life Member in 1970.
Jim was a Life Member of the Trappe Fire Co., where he served with the ambulance crew. He also was a Life Member of the Keystone Fire Chiefs Assn.
Jim served the Borough Of Collegeville as Fire Marshall from 1960 to 1969. He served on Borough Council from 1980-1998 and chaired the building committee for the construction of the present borough hall. The hall's meeting room was named for him 1998.
Jim was the youngest and last of his siblings. They were Robert H. Moyer, Kenneth H. Moyer, Josephine H. Moyer, George H. Moyer, Catherine M. Clawson, Dorothy F. Miller, Stanley I. Moyer, and Betty Jean Keene. He is survived by fourteen nieces and nephews, and many great and great-great nieces and nephews.
Jim's funeral service will be at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, December 18th, at the Holcombe Funeral Home, Inc., 21 Main St., Trappe, PA with the Rev. Dr. Martha B. Krieble, Pastor Emerita, Trinity Reformed Church, United Church Of Christ, Collegeville, officiating. Burial will be in Augustus Lutheran Cemetery, Trappe. Friends may call from 10:00 to 10:45 AM, Wednesday, at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Collegeville Fire Co., 29 E.
